Welcome to Øvre Verket Håndverkstun
- arts, handicrafts, traditions and culture at Ulefoss, Telemark
The small, red-painted houses of Øvre Verket, are an important part of the norwegian history. Here lived the workers of Ulefos Jernværk, the local iron-factory, in the period were Norway developed from a rural to a modern industrial society.
Today, Øvre Verket Håndverkstun houses artists and designers of modern arts and crafts, based on traditions from Telemark.
Here you find a work-shop for the traditional norwegian bunad, an antique bookshop, textile-artists, weavers, a giftshop that sells handmade cards, and more.
Our small restaurant offers traditional, homecooked and locally produced food in a unique environment. You may also purchase arts and handicrafts off the wall in our gallery in the same building.
During summertime there are historical exhibitions in the small houses, and there's plenty of space and things to see for the children.
Øvre Verket Håndverkstun is situated in the heart of Telemark, by the Telemark canal, and is easy accessable from Oslo and Larvik. See map
